British intelligence reveals the number of Russian troops in Ukraine

According to information provided by the UK intelligence service, there are more than 200,000 Russian troops in Ukraine. These forces are represented by 70 regiments and brigades, which are distributed among five military groups.

This information was published on Twitter by the British Ministry of Defense.

British intelligence explained that, according to available documents, the structure of Russian military groups in Ukraine is similar to that of the time of the start of the full-scale aggression on February 24, 2022. Therefore, analysts believe that it still includes more than 200,000 military personnel, forming approximately 70 combat regiments and brigades divided into five military groups. As in the initial period of the war, the Russian military has limited access to air operations.

However, in February 2022, Russian troops consisted mainly of professional soldiers, were well equipped with modern vehicles, and underwent regular training. Now, the army is largely composed of poorly trained mobilized reservists who increasingly use outdated equipment, and many units suffer from a lack of strength. Russian troops now regularly carry out only fairly simple infantry operations.

Intelligence also noted that Russia does not have sufficient reserves.

Attempts by the current Russian military grouping to create a large, combat-ready, mobile reserve for new operational tasks seem unlikely. It is unlikely that such a military grouping would be able to effectively achieve large-scale military influence along a 1,200-kilometer front in a highly tense environment.
